Chapter 7
GOD’S PROTECTION OF FAMILIES IS HIS
WITNESS TO THE UNBELIEVING WORLD!
God loves and protects His own. Look at Noah. He, his wife, his sons and daughters-in-laws were
all saved from the flood that would cover the whole earth. He cared so much for Noah and his
family that He instructed Noah just exactly how to build the safety device (the Ark) that would save
them in the midst of the storm.
Sometimes we have to go through storms. We are not immuned in that way, but the Lord has
promised that He will always be with us in the midst of the storm and always take care of us. “I will
never leave you nor forsake you” Jesus said. “Nothing can separate us from the love of God”, not
storm or trial or calamity. Sometimes these are the things that are used to build our character and
bring out the refined gold that is in us. Sometimes we have to be refined by the fires of trials in our
lives, so that the sludge can come to the surface and be skimmed off. But! God is always there,
always watching over us, and always loves us no matter what! “All things work together for good to
those who love the Lord and are the called according to His purpose.” Right? Right!
During the Passover, God told the people of Israel to put the lamb’s blood on the door posts of their
homes, so that they would be PROTECTED from the death angel. “When I see the blood, I will
pass over you.” Remember that old song! What a great song it was.
Rahab believed in the God of the Israelites enough to put the cord out the window so that she and
those in her home would be PROTECTED from the coming invading army of Israelites who would
come to wipe out her town. Thus she was spared, and was also used to be a descendant of Jesus.
Jesus, Himself, was protected from Herod who wanted kill all the babies under two years of age in
Bethlehem. The angel came and told Joseph to take the mother and the young Child to Egypt and
leave Bethlehem. Then the soldiers came and killed the young babies.
God can protect your family too! I am sure if you think back you can remember instances where
God’s hand of protection was upon your family in some way.
My family vividly remembers the trip we took as a family to the east coast. We were in a rental car
and at a stop light. My husband looked back in his rear view mirror and saw a car racing towards
the back of us unable to stop. I pulled down my visor and my children looked out the rear window at
this car. Then all of a sudden, this car stood straight up on it’s front two wheels (straight up in the
air) and the car behind him came right up underneath this car. Then the car in back of us that was
standing straight up in the air, came back down with his back two wheels landing on top of the hood
of the car behind him and then rolled off gently onto the ground. That was God, ladies! It
increased my children’s faith a hundred fold as they saw a miracle actually happen before their very
own eyes, and saw the hand of God protecting them from getting killed. We still share this story
with everyone today, it was so amazing. When we see God’s protection in one way or another, our
children’s faith can grow like crazy.
We have been sealed! GOD shut the door of the ark after the animals and people were all inside.
Noah’s family was saved (by their faith) and the people in the world SAW IT! And we too have been
SEALED by believing in Jesus as our Savior and that the fact that He died on the cross for our
sins. We have been sealed by the Holy Spirit until the day of our redemption (and reclamation). My
husband calls it GRADUATION DAY when we die and go to heaven. Christ Jesus is our ARK of
safety now! Praise the Lord!
Our flood comes with the attacks from Satan and the trials of life.
Our battle is against principalities and powers in high places, not against flesh and blood.
But we are more than CONQUERERS through Christ Jesus against all oppression. With our lives
in accord with His will, we are prepared for the battle and able to put on the full armor of God
spoken of in (Ephesians 6).
The CALL:
Abraham was called to go to a city made without hands. To forsake all that he knew. All his
livelihood, relatives, present home and friends. He took his wife and his nephew, Lot, and ventured
off in faith, following this new found God in obedience to His call.
WE have been called to a heavenly city (home). We have been called to come out from amongst
the world and be a separated people unto God. Read John 17:13-16, II Cor 6:14-18 and Heb 7:26.
THE PROMISE:
to Israel was fulfilled after 400 years in Egypt and wandering in the desert for 40 years.
I Peter 2:9-10 says, “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation. A people for God’
s own possession that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of
darkness into His marvelous light; for you once were not a people, but now you are the people of
God; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy.” This means that He wants
us to live joyful lives in the midst of our trials. He desires that we shine forth in the darkness so that
we can influence other who are in the world, as they see His magnificent grace towards us, His
children.
Psalms 37:23-25 says, “The steps of a man are established by the Lord; and He delights in his
ways. When He falls, he shall not hurled headlong; because the Lord is the One who holds his
hand.” WOW! Isn’t this a wonderful Scripture for us to hold onto for ourselves and our families?
And so is Psalm 91.
We will be rewarded for our faith!
OUR RELATIONSHIP TO THE WORLD:
We come from God, are a light to the world, we put off the old nature and become part of one
Body. To live in righteousness, holiness, love, joy, peace and unity with one another. In the midst
of a world that is full of hate, division, anger, unrest, selfishness, greed and fear.
These things are the greatest gifts we can give our children. The heritage of becoming children of
the living God, and knowing Him as He is.
The world will see the difference and it can all begin with us!
